IHO Objectives
Indigenous Heartland Organization (IHO) aims at empowering local communities in the heartlands to manage and benefit from wildlife resources. Participatory land use planning will be encouraged by IHO as a way of involving stakeholders in decision making in respect to land use.
IHO promotes the sharing of socio-economic benefits with local communities and indigenous people by having their informed consent and participation in the management of ecotourism enterprises.
IHO helps local communities to promote eco-tourism practises and organize tours in the areas where they live exposing tourists to various facets of their culture and daily life. IHO plans to secure a sustainable source of funding for tourism training of indigenous people in the heartlands.
IHO sensitizes people with the beauty and the fragility of nature, local culture and main attractions. It further preserves indigenous cultures from erosion by the dominant consumer culture.
